Cabo San Lucas aka Los Cabos is a great get-away. I love it for the perfect weather; it’s never humid and only rains 2 weeks a year in September. It’s still hot but not an unbearable hot.
My first stop was The Resort at Pedregal. The entire resort is fascinating to me. You literally drive through a mountain to get there. They tunneled through the mountain and created this oasis. The resort is carved into 24 acres, made up of oceanfront and mountainside.
The entire resort is open air including the lobby! It ties in the nature theme into every aspect. My room has beautiful ocean views along with a small infinity pool on the terrace. The high-end finishes add to the luxurious elegance. The bathroom had views of the sea from the shower as well as views of the mountain from the front terrace. I laid on the hammock looking up at the mountainous landscape for hours.
The staff is impeccable and goes above and beyond to ensure you enjoy your stay. It was a wonderful surprise to come back to my room each afternoon to a delicious snack. My favorite was the homemade guacamole, chips and chilled beer.
No trip is complete without a spa visit. The Luna y Mar Spa has a variety of ways to pamper and indulge yourself through fitness and treatments. They derive their inspiration from the lunar cycle, the sea and authentic Mexican folk healing. Each spa experience begins with a traditional foot-cleansing ritual, using special herbs to purify and prepare you for your spa journey. I enjoyed a fantastic deep tissue massage in a room that opened to a waterfall. Hearing the calming effects of the waterfall added to the treatment.
The Resort at Pedregal is the best of both worlds. Built into the side of a mountain it offers the grounding feeling from the desert and the calmness of the ocean. It is the perfect getaway for lounging and relaxing while having the opportunity for adventures in town.
The restaurant at the resort is oceanside of course. I started off with a champagne tasting which was educational and fun! Dinner was delicious. I referred to the waiter to recommend my entrees. He was on point with a delicious sea bass and fresh grilled vegetables.
The ocean can have a very strong current at the resort so there are some non-swimming areas along the beach. Fear not, there is a beautiful grand infinity pool for your enjoyment.
I highly recommend the Resort at Pedregal for a relaxing getaway with friends, family or a romantic weekend.
Making time to enjoy activities was a big part of my trip. I was feeling adventurous so I decided to give zip-lining a try. You had a briefing on the do’s and don’ts to have a safe enjoyable time. The concept was to zip-line across a canyon; going back and forth while hiking to higher levels for each crossing. In theory it sounded amazing. When reality set in and I crossed the canyon for the first time, I was at 600 feet and was terrified. When I finally made it across (screaming the entire time), I stood there proud and scared at the same time. I love trying new things but I also realized I was too scared to continue. The next level was at 900 feet and I knew I wouldn’t make it. I nicely told the instructors and explained I’d be happy to hike down the canyon and wait for everyone to finish. There was one small problem. I was on the opposite side of the canyon. I needed to cross back over at 900 feet. The instructors saw the fear on my face and calmed me down. They ensured me it would be okay. They would have one of the instructors zip across with me in tandem so I would be secure. I was still scared but felt much better about the tandem zip.
I was all harnessed in, helmet on, gripping the handle for dear life but didn’t see the instructor. They kept ensuring me it would be okay. As I faced the canyon, I said a little prayer. The next thing I knew, someone came up behind me, wrapped their legs around my waist and pushed off. We were zipping across the canyon at warp speed and I was screaming my lungs out. That is not what I had in mind as a tandem ride. Needless to say we made it across in seconds and I was happy to be on land again. I was so relieved to hike back down. I’m happy I tried it but am also glad that I knew when I was in over my head.
I then moved on to calmer activities. There is a great boat tour that takes you all over Los Cabos. It’s a great way to get perspective of the destination and enjoy the ocean.
I then went into town to do some sightseeing, visit the local shops and enjoy a wonderful lunch of local cuisine. I also had to visit Cabo Wabo. It’s a great bar filled with a lively crowd and fun night out.
My next stop was the The Viceroy Los Cabos. It is a modern chic luxury resort. The hotel is stunning and the staff and experience are superb. The goal is to make you feel at one with the sea. Mission accomplished!
Can I just tell you the fun I had walking on the catwalk that connects all the buildings and pool and the pathway to the ocean and gym. I felt like a supermodel my entire stay. It feels like the hotel is floating on water the way it’s designed.
Sticking to a fitness routine while traveling can be tricky but not when you stay at the Viceroy Los Cabos. The fitness center was outstanding. They had numerous options for machines, weight training, as well as classes. The gym was curated by celebrity fitness guru Harley Pasternak so you know it was top notch.
Casero Restaurant provided an authentic dining experience. The guac was beyond! I also visited the Nest. It’s located in the center of the property and it’s covering looks like a bird’s nest. It keeps the sun out yet allows the ocean air to be enjoyed by the guests.
Of course, I had to have a spa experience. In this case, the Viceroy provided in-room spa services. Getting a massage on the terrace while hearing the ocean waves crashing was heaven!
I enjoyed dining at Acre Restaurant in town as well. It is a farm to table dining experience beyond anywhere I have dined before. The restaurant is situated on beautiful grounds and gardens that set the tone for an enjoyable experience.
I would recommend going to Cabo San Lucas anytime; except September because of the two-week rain period.
