Everyone has a different tipping strategy. Some use a percentage of the room rate or they prefer to give a cash tip at the time of service to the individual. There is no rule when tipping the staff at a luxury hotel.
If you’re going to tip members of the housekeeping staff individually, you can settle on an amount that is a percentage of the room rate. You can also use the guideline of $10 to $15 a day. If you prefer to tip other hotel staff members, you can do so at your discretion depending on the service they provided. Bellman, for example, usually receive $5 per bag as a tip.
If you prefer to tip once at the end of your stay in cash, you can leave it in an envelope in your room for the housekeeper. You can also leave a tip in an envelope with the staff members name on it at the front desk.
Some people prefer to leave a gratuity on their credit card for the entire hospitality team which will be distributed evenly among the hotel staff. The front desk can work with you to arrange this. This is ideal if you prefer a contact-free hotel experience.
Regardless of your tipping preference, the staff is always grateful for your appreciation and gratuity.
