- My #1 tip for flying is if you fly at least 2-3 times per year, it is worth signing up for CLEAR or TSA PreCheck to save yourself some serious time. You breeze through the security line, and you don’t have to remove your shoes, laptops, liquids, belts or sweaters. CLEAR is an annual membership while TSA PreCheck is good for 5 years once you are approved.
2. Pack a sleeping kit. Landing at your destination well rested will help set your trip off to a great start. Bringing a few small items with you will make your flight much more comfortable. Invest in a comfy travel pillow, small blanket and eye mask.
3. Take time to organize your carry-on bag before you leave home. Have a special compartment for your passport or other travel documents. Include a book, magazine, laptop, phone and other essentials in your bag.
4. Ensure all your devices are charged before your trip. Phone, laptop, iPad, camera, and any other electronics you travel with.
5. Make sure your airline profile on all airlines is up to date to reflect your meal preferences and TSA information if applicable.
6. When booking your flight, choose the seat that best suits you. Be it aisle, window or middle seat.
7. Wipe down your seat, tray table and arm rest upon boarding. Carry the packet disinfectant wipes in your carry on so you are always prepared.
8. If it is a long-haul flight and you want to get comfortable, bring along a pair of disposable slippers so you can take your shoes off and relax. Please do not go barefoot or walk around the plain in your socks. Not only is it unsanitary, it could be offensive to the other passengers.
9. Respect your seatmate. Be friendly but understand if they don’t want to chat.
10. Pack healthy snacks for the flight.
