I love to plan events but realize it can be stressful for some. For me, it is all worth it when I see people enjoying themselves. Whether you are a natural born planner or new to hosting, here are a few ways to enjoy the process and ensure your guests have a great time.
#1 Ask a couple friends to come over before the party starts. It can be awkward to be the first guest to arrive. This is why so many come “fashionably late”. With your friends already there when the first guests arrive, you can avoid this awkwardness.
#2 Most people have different types of friends and acquaintances of different walks of life which I love. That doesn’t mean they will all mesh well with the intermingling of people. If you can foresee clashes when considering your guest list, it’s okay to leave some people off the list. You can invite them to the next gathering. Personally, I like to mix it up. It has always worked for me!
#3 One of the big decision makers is food. Always make sure you have more than enough food. Food is also a good way for guests to break the ice and not feel awkward. Wherever your party is being held, remember people tend to gather around the food. Make sure you put it in a good area. Today, there is an abundance of things to consider for food; gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, nut allergies, etc. It’s important to have something for everyone. There is nothing worse than going to a party and not being able to eat any of the food.
I highly recommend hiring a caterer or personal chef to manage the food. It is one less thing for you to worry about. If you have a signature dish you like to make, you can still make it as an add on to the menu items.
#4 Have great music. Music sets the tone for the party so make it upbeat and fun! I like to have old school as well as new songs on the playlist. Songs can spark great memories! Depending on the location of your party, consider hiring a band or DJ.
#5 Even if your party is during the day, light candles. It will create a welcoming environment when guests arrive.
#6 Have floral arrangements for the main food/bar areas as well as smaller arrangements throughout the party. Flowers are a wonderful touch that make any area more beautiful be it indoors or outdoors.
#7 Hire staff. You want to focus on enjoying the party so let the professionals take care of serving your guests and cleaning up. You will not regret it.
#7 Take pictures. Capture candid moments of your guests throughout the party. Don’t forget to jump in a few photos yourself. Better yet, consider hiring a photographer for the party!
#8 Present your guests with a parting gift as a way to remember the party fondly.
#9 Last but not least…….Try and enjoy yourself as much as possible. You matter too. Have a drink and something to eat. Take time to talk to your guests and enjoy their company. That’s what it is all about.
