Whether you travel once a year or every week, you should always pack a Travel First Aid Kit in your bag. You can buy a prepackaged kit at any local drug store, but I recommended customizing a kit yourself to be as prepared as possible for your trip.
While your kit should contain some quality mainstay items, it should also be tailored specifically to your needs. Take climate, destination, and your personal health into consideration when preparing your kit. I find that a travel kit is most important with international travel where there is limited access to the brands I prefer.
Your kit should be lightweight and practical; I recommend using a soft waterproof case with a zipper. Make sure your kit is just the right size for your needs. If your kit is too full, it’s going to be disorganized and difficult to find something in a pinch!
Recommendations for Must-Have First Aid Kit Items:
·A digital thermometer for monitoring fevers and determining if you should seek professional medical help.
·Bandages and Band-Aids of varying size. Take a few assorted sizes but don’t go overboard. Band-Aids are one of the easier products to find abroad.
·Alcohol wipes, tweezers, antibacterial ointment, and a small roll of medical tape. (Medical tape also has a myriad of other uses that would make MacGyver proud!)
·Medication. Tylenol is a great pain reliever for fighting mild fevers. Ibuprofen is also a useful anti-inflammatory and helps with general aches and pains. Be sure to bring Benadryl and Dramamine too. If you have any allergies or sinus issues, prepare accordingly. You never know if they’ll flare up you when you least expect it.
·Anti-diarrhea tablets. These are particularly helpful if you are trying a new cuisine!
Gift idea: Custom-packed travel first aid kits make unique and thoughtful gifts for travelers.
